Keeping Your Values Grounded in Business
Someone asked what my values were the other day and how I keep those grounded in my business. It stopped me for a moment, because values aren’t something I keep written on a piece of paper, they’re what guides how I show up every day!
For me, values are about how you do business, not just what you do. They shape decisions, conversations, and the way you treat people, whether that’s a client, a colleague, or someone you meet in passing.
In small businesses, values are often lived rather than written. They show up in the way you respond to challenges, how you support your team, and how you stay true to your purpose when things get tough.
When I set up Coast to Country HR, I wanted my work to reflect the same principles, I’ve always believed in; honesty, kindness, and practicality. That means being transparent with clients, offering calm and steady advice, and never losing sight of the people behind the business.
Values keep you grounded when the pace picks up. They remind you why you started, what matters most, and how you want others to feel when they work with you.
So, if someone asked you the same question, what are your values, and how do you keep them grounded in your business? What would you say?
